Construction and trade business name ideas
Trade work is won on trust and found close to home. The names that last tell people what you do and where you do it, and they still look right on the side of a ute.
Ways to name a building or trade business
Your suburb and your trade
A suburb or region in the name tells people you’re local, and that you’ll turn up.
Say when you’ll come
For burst pipes and power cuts, the hours matter most. A name that promises any-hour help is the one people remember in a hurry.
Name the job you want more of
If you’d rather build granny flats than fix gutters, put it in the name. It brings in the work you’re set up for.
Plain and solid
Some of the best trade names are simply sturdy. They suit a business that wants to grow past one van and one suburb.
Before you settle on a name
Only claim a licence you hold
State and territory laws limit some trade words in a name, and “builder” is one in every state and territory. ASIC warns that a name suggesting a licence you don’t hold may break the law, and says these laws are worth considering before you register.

ASIC won’t register a name that is identical or nearly identical to one already registered. It ignores plurals, “the” and spacing when it compares names, and against other business names it also ignores word order and counts names that sound the same as one name.

Registering a business name doesn’t give you exclusive rights to it. Only a trade mark does, so search the trade mark register as well.

business.gov.au suggests registering a domain that reflects your business name, even before you have a website. If the .com.au you want is already held, its holder may be willing to sell it.
