Bakery and cake business name ideas

Most bakeries are loved for one thing: a loaf, a slice, a cake people order for every birthday. A good name points at that thing, or at the warmth of where it’s made.

Ways to name a bakery

  1. Name your signature bake

If people already come for one thing, let the name say it. It turns your best seller into your sign.

  2. Keep it home-made

Small bakers and home kitchens can lean into that. A homely name promises care, and nobody expects a factory behind it.

  3. Pair the city with the bake

For cakes that are ordered and delivered, a city in the name tells customers you can get it to them.

  4. Name the occasion

Celebration bakers sell to a moment, not a craving. A name about the occasion finds people at the exact point they need you.

Before you settle on a name

  1. Bakery, bakehouse and bakers count as one word

Swapping “bakery” for “bakehouse” won’t set your name apart from a registered business name. ASIC’s own example: “Fresh Bread Bakehouse” and “Fresh Bread Bakery” count as the same name.

  2. Search the business names register

ASIC won’t register a name that is identical or nearly identical to one already registered. It ignores plurals, “the” and spacing when it compares names, and against other business names it also ignores word order and counts names that sound the same as one name.

  3. Look for trade marks

Registering a business name doesn’t give you exclusive rights to it. Only a trade mark does, so search the trade mark register as well.

  4. Settle the domain at the same time

business.gov.au suggests registering a domain that reflects your business name, even before you have a website. If the .com.au you want is already held, its holder may be willing to sell it.
