What is my domain name worth?

A free appraisal: GoDaddy’s estimate for your name, beside what similar names ask on Dotto.

Free, and you don’t need an account.

How this appraisal works

We ask GoDaddy’s valuation model for its estimate and convert it from US dollars at the day’s exchange rate. Then we look through the names for sale on Dotto with the same ending and no more than two letters longer or shorter, and show what most of them ask.

What moves a domain name’s value

Buyers pay for:

  • a name that is short and easy to say, spell and remember
  • real words, or a clear meaning for a business
  • the ending its buyers expect: .com worldwide, .com.au and .au in Australia
  • a name a business could use today, clear of anyone else’s trade mark

An estimate sees only the name itself. A buyer also weighs what the name means to their own business, which is why one name can sell for very different prices. How selling works on Dotto

How accurate is the estimate?

It’s a guide, not a valuation to bank on. GoDaddy says its model looks at millions of past domain sales, and that a name may sell above or below its estimate.

Why are there two GoDaddy figures?

GoDaddy gives two figures and doesn’t say exactly how they differ. The wholesale figure is usually much lower. In the domain trade, wholesale means the price between domain investors.

Why do the asking prices differ from the estimate?

Sellers on Dotto set their own prices, and an asking price is what a seller hopes for, not what a buyer has paid. Read the two together; neither is a sale price.

Is the name I type kept?

We send it to GoDaddy for the estimate and keep GoDaddy’s answer for a day, so asking again is quick. We don’t record it with anything about you, and it never appears in the page’s address.
