# Dotto: an Australian domain name marketplace > Dotto (https://www.dotto.com) is a domain aftermarket marketplace: people buy domain names that are already registered, from the sellers who hold them. It is run by Dotto Pty Ltd (ABN 30 693 820 898), an Australian company. Most of its names are .com.au and .au, and every price is in Australian dollars. ## What Dotto is Sellers are approved before they list. Buyers can buy a name at its listed price, pay for it monthly on a payment plan, or make an offer. Many names take offers only. Dotto holds the buyer's payment until the buyer confirms the domain has arrived, then pays the seller. Most listings come with brand assets made with AI: a logo, a tagline, a colour palette and a short description of the name. Sellers create them with one button. Dotto is not a domain registrar and does not register new names. It is not a broker: buyers and sellers deal on the marketplace, and the seller sets the price and answers every offer. ## Key facts - Inventory: more than 10,000 names, most of them .com.au and .au, with some .net.au, .com and .ai - Prices: most names take offers; names with a price run from a few hundred dollars to over $600,000 AUD - Buyer fees: none; the buyer pays exactly the listed price - Seller fees: a 12.5% commission (GST included) and a platform fee (1.7% of the sale plus $0.30 on an Australian card, more for a card from overseas), taken from the sale; the payout receipt itemises every line - Seller plans: a free plan lists one domain; larger portfolios need a paid plan - Payment plans: on most names with a listed price, monthly over 12, 24 or 36 months, with no interest and no extra fees - Transfers: Dotto aims to complete its side within 5 to 7 days; the whole transfer also depends on the buyer and their registrar - Refunds: a full refund if the seller does not transfer within 7 business days, the domain cannot be transferred to the buyer, or it is not as its listing described (terms, section 5.5); payment plans follow the buyer's plan agreement - .au names: only a buyer who meets auDA's rules for the name, for example an Australian presence, can receive one (terms, section 5.4) - Payments: credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) through Stripe; bank transfer on request ## How buying works 1. A: An Australian marketplace for buying and selling domain names that are already registered. Most of its names are .com.au and .au. Q: Is Dotto a domain registrar? A: No. Sellers list names they hold, and the registrar where a name is held carries out its transfer. Dotto does not register new names. Q: How is Dotto different from Afternic or Sedo? A: Its stock is mostly Australian names, most listings carry AI-made brand assets, and the buyer pays exactly the listed price, with no fee added at checkout. Q: Can anyone buy a .com.au or .au name on Dotto? A: Anyone can buy, but only a buyer who meets auDA's rules for that name, for example an Australian presence, can receive it. Q: How long does a transfer take? A: Dotto aims to complete its side within 5 to 7 days. The whole transfer also depends on the buyer and their registrar. Under the terms, the seller has 7 business days to transfer the name. Q: Do you offer payment plans? A: Yes, on most names with a listed price: monthly over 12, 24 or 36 months, with no interest. A seller can switch them off for a name. Dotto holds each payment while the plan runs, and the seller transfers the name after the last one. Q: Can I make an offer? A: Yes, on most names. The seller can accept, counter or decline. Q: What if the transfer fails? A: You get a full refund if the seller does not transfer within 7 business days, the domain cannot be transferred to you, or it is not as its listing described (terms, section 5.5). Q: Is my payment secure? A: Payments are processed by Stripe, and the site is served over HTTPS only. ## Category Domain marketplace, domain aftermarket, Australian domain names, .com.au domains for sale, .au domains for sale, buy domains, sell domains, brandable domains ## Last updated 21 October 2026.
